Role
HitchHiker
Senior Android Engineer
Sep 2017 – Jun 2018
Stabilized travel/shipping, shipped sockets chat with bots (10× deals), and rebuilt toward offline-first MVVM.

01
Context
Travel and shipping marketplace apps lose trust fast when memory leaks, threading bugs, and weak architecture surface under real use.
02
What I did
Senior Android Engineer at HitchHiker Inc., Cairo (Sep 2017 – Jun 2018). Stabilized the app with LeakCanary and RxJava, shipped sockets chat with bot support, rebuilt toward offline-first Dagger2 MVVM in Kotlin, and revamped UX to Material Design.
03
Impact
Community of travelers grew; monthly shipping deals hit a new 10× record — and the codebase moved onto a sustainable offline-first architecture.
Highlights
- Stabilized the travel/shipping app — memory leaks and threading with LeakCanary and RxJava; tighter MVP separation of concerns
- Integrated sockets chat with bot support, helping grow the traveler community and hit a 10× record in monthly shipping deals
- Built an offline-first, tested, Dagger2-modularized reactive MVVM stack with Data Binding, Kotlin, and automated deployment
- Revamped the whole app UX to Material Design best practices
